Maybe it’s the fact that many of our best baseball players signed young and never went to college, or that baseball and basketball, despite all the preaching about hard work and consistency, are in the end decided more by individual achievement than by team play. The second hypothesis seems much more likely, and interesting, than the first. The comments section is full of skeptics, but at least one useful point was made: football rosters require at least 4 times as many players as basketball rosters, and perhaps twice as many as a baseball roster. Is that consideration mitigated by the greater difficulties involved in fielding a full football squad and therefore by fewer teams overall?
The suggestion I'd like to make again, in any case, is that the games American Presidents play do matter, for reasons I'm exploring on this blog...at least until I find the Althusser essay which renders the whole project futile.
